Once you are done with verifying your business for Japanese phone number in Zendesk Talk, and the status of the verification is Pending review, next thing you need to do is to send a request to Zendesk Support saying you need National Prefix number, not toll-free. As of September 2021, this is the only workaround since there is no option to select National Prefix number in Talk UI.
Send a request to Zendesk for Japan National Prefix number
- Send a request to Zendesk Support team by sending a ticket by the steps below:
Click your profile icon in Support interface > Click Get Help. - In the message, write that you need a National Prefix number (+81 50) and not toll-free, and that you are instructed to select “Toll-Free” at the beginning of the business verification process, then submit a ticket to let Zendesk know that you need a Japan National Prefix number.
- Include your subdomain and a screenshot of the business verification status page.

TIP: Since many of the documents are written in Japanese, it is sometimes quicker and smoother to make a request in Japanese. That way, the ticket will go directly to a Japanese agent and it could save a lot of time! Or simply ask for staff who understands Japanese to be the assignee of your request.
If you would like to send a ticket in Japanese, here is a sample text:
(If you write in Japanese, you will probably get a response in Japanese as well.)
- Once you entered all information you need in the email, submit it. When you receive a reply from Zendesk, follow the steps to complete the process.
Note: As of September 2021, Zendesk is handling the number purchasing process on behalf only for National Prefix number. For toll-free, as long as the business has been verified, you can purchase the number from your Talk instance.
