This error usually appears when the WhatsApp phone number format doesn’t match the selected country in the app. The system validates the phone number using international dialing standards, so if the number format is incorrect, it won’t be accepted.
How to fix it
Make sure the phone number is entered in full international format:
[country code] [number without the leading 0]
Example:
For a U.S. number → +1 2345667890
Special country formats
Argentina
If your local number is: 11 15 1234 XXXX
Enter it as: +54 9 11 1234 XXXX
Explanation:
+54 = Country code for Argentina
9 = Required mobile indicator (for WhatsApp international format)
11 = Area code
15 is removed (it’s only used locally)
Mexico
If your local number is: 55 1234 XXXX
Enter it as: +52 1 55 1234 XXXX
Explanation:
+52 = Country code for Mexico
1 = Required digit for mobile numbers
55 = Area code
Summary
Always include +country code.
Remove leading 0s and local prefixes (such as 15 in Argentina).
For Argentina and Mexico, add the special mobile indicator (9 or 1).
